About 51 years ago, a plane landed at Idlewild Airport. The plane came from the Middle East bearing a man who claims to be 2,000 years old. Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner worked out a good thing when they concocted the 2,000-Year-Old Man skit, which pits Reiner’s interviewer against the world’s oldest Jew.

After debuting in ’61, the largely improvised skit was returned to time and time again, notably in this vaguely Schoolhouse Rock-ish animated incarnation:

Reiner and Brooks themselves give a pretty good run-down of how the Man came to be. Funny guys, not that they need me to say it.
