The Flying Nun

This isn’t funny! — The Flying Nun, “Brother From The Same Planet”

The flashing presence of an airborne nun in “Brother” is a quick reference to The Flying Nun, a short-lived 60s sitcom centered around a … flying nun. Portrayed by Sally Field in one of her earlier roles. I’ll just leave this here:

Yowza. Linda Ronstadt ain’t got nothing on it. The Flying Nun only ran for three critically-panned seasons (it made TV Guide’s list of the 50 worst television shows, alongside previous SHS favorites My Mother The Car, Hogan’s Heroes, and, yes, The Misadventures Of Sheriff Lobo), and I honestly can’t tell if the fact that she could fly was ever brought up, plot-wise.

Those funny white hat things are called cornettes, by the by. The cow was slaughtered in the abattoir.
