The deposed sanitation commissioner’s curt misdirect towards the end of “Trash Of The Titans” is a take-off on a similar stunt pulled by comedy patron saint Redd Foxx.

As the story goes, Foxx, arriving on-stage for a gig before a less-than-packed house, politely informed the crowd that he wouldn’t be performing for them that night and walked off stage after delivering a few short words. The orchestra, which had just introduced the comedian with a riff on the classic Sanford And Son theme, had no choice but to play an immediate reprise:

The same joke was repeated in “The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons”, in a sense…

A fun fact about Redd Foxx: actor/comedian/singer Jamie Foxx (born Eric Marlon Bishop) chose his stage surname after Redd. If that wasn’t fun enough, watch this:
